Jose Sanint

The art of Tapestry Exhibition by the Colombian architect Jose Sanint's a devoted Buddhist himself. It is "Through Silence" Indeed and with great discipline with great determination enduring one hundred and eight days of meditative silence while creating these unique collection of art-tapestries in Tibet.

Jose Sanint has been working creating masterful art-tapestries made from antique ceremonial garbs that are between 100 to 200 years old. The contemporary tapestries reconstructed Mandala patterns assembled by Jose and his Tibetan partner Pasang Tsering were produced with the same ritual process used to restore this precious Himalayan fabrics to their original glory. Equally the antique and contemporary tapestries are modern manifestations of an ancient Tibetan-Himalayan –Buddhist weaving tradition hand woven all across the Himalayas by skilled -artisans, each pattern representing a different regions of Tibet, these elaborate textiles represent an ancestral culture that has been disappearing since 1959.

He has founded "The Akrabhala foundation" to protect the culture and preserve the art and Culture of Tibet. The foundation will establish a workshop that will keep these traditional Tibetan-Himalayan weaving customs alive while also creating a space in the global market for contemporary works of this ancient art – form. Through these endeavors, Akrabhala will assist the artisans in sharing their art with the world, creating a way for these crafts-women to promote their heritage and support their families.
