Jay Lohman
Jay Lohmann is not a graduate of an art institution, nor did he plan to become an artist. Lohmann however, could not deny an overwhelming urge to create, and use his creative talents.
A week after graduating from Fordham University with a degree in political science, (summa cum laude), Lohmann moved to Italy and began a long and prosperous career in decorative painting. Rather than art school, Lohmann had an intensive on the job training experience in fine art, frescoe painting, restoration, and guilding. A culmination of these talents and a health crisis ultimately led to a shift in his career and his first one man show in Milan, Italy in 2003. Since then Lohmann has been rigorously approaching his paintings using a variety of techniques and materials. Inspired by street art, wild postings, and visual street pollution, he creates large canvases, which combine painting, pasting and graffiti. The result of this combination opens up an expressive dialogue between the artist’s inner self and the external world.
Lohmann's work has since been exhibited in a group show at the Silas Marder gallery in bridgehampton, ny (2007). Two group auctions to benefit the HIV law project at the Moti Hasson gallery, New York. (2007/8). A group show at Salomon Arts Gallery (2009).
