Claudio Castillo
"In my work, the worlds of painting, animation, and computer programming
conspire together in a subtly subversive take on software art. The watercolor
image has traditionally existed as a unique original, along with the possibilities for
its reproduction. Software art has often focused on generating complex images
that mirror the endless variables made possible by computer coding".

In Reactive Art, the weather, news and stock markets drive the compositions
in real time by receiving feeds through the Internet. Mr. Castillo's work creates
itself as a reaction to real world, live data. The artist has created all the variables
and lets the individual feeds create the appropriate imagery. For example, in the
case of the weather piece (GTMO Landscape), multiple animated variables of
heat, wind, humidity, and cloud cover, precipitation and time of day have been
created. When the artwork receives weather information for any given city, it
composes the image that most closely fits the incoming data. |
